1 About this Book

This book, Manufacturing Processes for Mechanical Engineers was constructed by Portland Community College ENGR 262 students and edited by the course instructor.

The book is an open-education resource (OER) and open-pedagogy resource designed to accompany a college mechanical engineering course on manufacturing processes. This textbook is used in ENGR 262 Manufacturing Processes at Portland Community College, which is part of the mechanical engineering transfer program.

The book was constructed and reviewed by students in Portland Community College’s ENGR262 class during the Winter of 2025 and Winter of 2026. Students in the class wrote, reviewed and revised the chapters in this book with editorial assistance from their instructor. Each student or group of students wrote and revised one chapter and reviewed the chapters of two other students. The goal of this work was to provide an educational experience for students in the class who wrote and reviewed the chapters and provide an educational resource for future students in the class and for sharing with other mechanical engineering manufacturing processes courses.
